Whombs Committee

Finding Inspiration in Every Turn

Committee members are volunteers, and work with lay advisors, and usually have a term of 2 years, which can be renewed.  Whombs is a small group currently, and as we get larger our structure and governance will evolve, and is currently managed by consensus.  There should be a minimum of 4 osteopathic members together with the secretary / chief executive office, from whom the chair is chosen.  There should be a minimum of 3 lay members, one for education, one for research, and one as a member of the public / patient advocate.

Osteopathic Committee members are members of the regulated osteopathy profession in their country of practice.

Lay members and advisors are drawn from the community.

The core committee is also supported by a number of the subgroups, such as those whose role it is to consider osteopathic standards, osteopathic models, principles and evidence that whombs recognises, and what research strategies whombs should support, and how evidence should be used. Whombs aims to support osteopathic research endeavours in women's health, paediatrics, and the development of osteopathic principles in practice.

Where the whombs committee considers education biographies and qualifications of individual applicants, or for considering training courses that meet whombs criteria for credentialing, then osteopathic members are supported by the education officer in any review of any academic application.

Any conflicts of interest are dealt with at a committee level, and tasks / roles  allocated accordingly.
